Payroll Operations Consultant

The Role

In this role you will provide the timely, accurate and efficient processing of payroll whilst delivering outstanding customer service. In addition, you will have the unique opportunity to lead a project that will transform and optimise payroll operations and support to Suncorp NZ.  You will be processing payroll for approximately 850 employees through Datapay. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all operational aspects of end to end payroll activities are delivered within appropriate timeframes and comply with relevant legislation including the preparation and issuance of IRD PAYE.
  • Scope and deploy a payroll project that will involve developing supporting documents, coaching and upskilling colleagues and finding solutions to issues or opportunities
  • Deliver advice and services within agreed Service Level Agreements
  • Work collaboratively with the external payroll provider (Datacom) to maintain compliant and efficient payroll including undertaking quality audit activity, maintaining records in accordance with legislative compliance and audit requirements
  • Accountability for ensuring accurate data integrity within Datapay including data cleansing activities for completeness and accuracy and recommending opportunities for process enhancement to enable this
  • Develop and deliver reporting from the Datapay system to meet the needs of the business.
  • Work collaboratively with the broader People Experience team to support, manage and mitigate potential risks within the team and payroll discipline
  • Provide support on Suncorp’s internal operational processes, procedures and systems as required with the aim of minimising or eliminating repeat issues to improve customer experience
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and procedures with the goal of achieving optimised ways of working and best practice


Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years payroll experience within a large organisation
  • Experience leading payroll related projects
  • Experience coaching and developing others
  • Proven stakeholder management and consulting skills
  • Ability to approach work with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Ideally experience in working with a wider global team
