Senior UX Designer

  • 10 month contract
  • Melbourne OR Brisbane location

Your new team:

A usual day will have our designers working in close collaboration with dedicated Online experience specialists (Product owners), content editors, performance & Insight leads, SEO teams, Copywriters and Development teams all working towards creating dynamic solutions for our business stakeholders whilst creating great customer experiences.

Although the key focus for this role will predominately be Mobile & App, there are a range of digital platforms and environments that all team members are expected to contribute to.

Your new role:

Due to this continued growth, we currently have a vacancy for someone with a portfolio of work demonstrating both general (responsive) web design thinking, as well as knowledge and best practice in relation to mobile and App design.

The successful candidate will work across a range brands, and initiatives, so the ability to adapt to changing business objectives is essential.

This role will bring fresh and expert design thinking to take our digital capability to the next level for our customers. We are seeking individuals whom not only can rapidly sketch, test and iterate designs but collaboratively with other UI/UX designers in the team build core UX team principles and methods.

About you (Senior UX designer):

Being a senior UX designer you will be expected to be able to take the role of and demonstrate the following.

  • Leading/directing (design) projects from initial inception & problem definition stage (with both business & technical stakeholders) 
  • Be expected to add value early on in the conception of design solutions.
  • Show leadership in getting the whole product teams, business stakeholders to be user centric, not just the design team.
  • Establishing /advising initial research* direction & either running or over seeing research activities & testing.
  • Conveys a systematic approach towards design challenges.
    • Can walk diverse stakeholders through the design process, relevant to user or business challenge. Questions key measure of success, revenue model, partnerships, etc. Or, existing product, what metrics can be used from current users.
    • Understands  Competitive and Comparative Analysis
    • User Research (you can decide what types should be done: Surveys, Interviews, Contextual Inquiry)
    • Keeps the business goals and user needs at the center of design decisions.
    • Tests with target demographic.
    • Iterates based on data from testing, thereby reducing avoidable development rework and saving the stakeholder’s money
    • Collaborates and communicates well with the team and beyond 
  • Create design experiences encompassing both micro screen interactions as well as screen flows taking into account various user scenarios.
  • Present design concepts and justify why such design solutions are preferable from both a design, customer & business perspective.
  • Has a portfolio of work demonstrating both general (responsive) web design thinking, as well as knowledge and best practice in relation to mobile and App design.

Core activities:

  • Collate, synthesize research findings into working design prototypes.
  • Co design with others within the ecommerce group, and business stakeholders to complete and deliver upon design briefs in a timely manner.
  • Able to present design to key business stakeholders at all stages of product lifecycle (initial sketch, wireframe, interactive prototype, improvement cycles).
  • Feel comfortable in providing design mentorship and advice to others in the team.
  • Strive for integration with other brand and digital marketing initiatives, including campaign and search activity.
  • Engage with and work collaboratively with development teams to explore the best ways to implement and leverage available technology.
  • Build and Manage relationships within the wider E-Commerce team, Brand & Digital Marketing, Product, Legal & Compliance and external partner agencies.

What you will need to succeed

  • Mobile first approach to UX strategies.
  • Ability to distil complex information and contextualising it for users.
  • Understanding and practise of lean research testing methods.
  • Understands the thinking and benefits of style guides and design patterns libraries principles.
  • Experience in designing cross platform mobile apps and prototyping.
  • Passionate about mobile technology and keeps abreast with latest user trends & behaviour.
  • 4+ years strong experience as a UX/UI designer.
  • Can clearly show an applied understanding of UX methodologies including (but not limited to) HCD, User research, Interaction & Interface Design and Information Architecture (Journey & Task mapping, workshop facilitation would also be an advantage)
  • Proficient in use of  Sketch (UI components) InVision (prototyping) & Abstract (controlled 
hub for your design files)
  • Keen eye for detail and usability/accessibility standards
