Manager Quantitative Services

About the role:

The Manager Quantitative Services performs an essential role within the Bank CFO team, explicitly ensuring that from the 1LoD perspective, we have developed, maintained and applied sound Market Risk models and User Developed Applications, including traded market and treasury credit risk, IRRBB and Liquidity models. As part of this, the Manager will ensure we have an up to date view of all model development, application, governance and implementation requirements within their accountabilities.

 

More specifically you will:

Working with Treasury and Market Financial Risk Analytics leaders to ensure:

o    model governance responsibilities are met for the Market Risk, IRRBB, Treasury Credit and Liquidity models.

o    The program of work for the department is documented, and

o    Resourcing or delivery issues are well managed.

For Treasury Risk & Control, leading specific modelling activities including:

o    Maintenance of up to date model documentation that meets Suncorp Group Model Integrity standards.

o    Continual challenge and enhancement of model methodology, seeking a balance between practicality, materiality and the most theoretically accurate solution.

o    Completion of annual reviews and support for independent validations where required.

o    Analytical insight required for Quarterly Model Monitoring Report analysis.

o    Presentation of key modelling analysis (development or application) to Model Technical Committees in a timely, complete and understandable way.

o    Support to the Model Governance, Insights and Capital Strategy team to ensure all model registers and issues logs are up to date.

o    Coordination and execution of the model development roadmap, which includes documentation and implementation of new models/UDAs or enhancements to existing models/UDAs.

o    Ensure models and UDAs are implemented with appropriate testing to ensure they are fit for purpose.

o    Lead programmes of work to upgrade or replace risk systems ensuring modelling compliance with advanced accreditation standards.

o    Regular or Ad-Hoc interaction with the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority and other regulatory agencies, to explain applied/proposed methodologies and assumptions and ensure regulatory changes are accurately implemented in a timely manner

Leading a team that provides:

o    Technical oversight to the design and application of market risk models within the department’s control, which includes working with the second line of defence model oversight teams.

o    Clear direction and thought leadership to the Model Governance resources to ensure model implementation and monitoring requirements are documented clearly, and model implementation scoping is performed to modeller’s satisfaction.

o    Set a process for analysis of market and enterprise risk model performance issues (which may identify model, data, process or systems issues, and will include working with teams across Models, CD, CRO, CFO and BT).

 

What you will need to succeed

  • Degree in Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Statistics / Mathematics, or Risk is highly desirable  
  • Post graduate finance, economics or accounting qualifications requirements are highly desirable
  • Extensive experience in financial services
  • Previous mid/senior-level experience within the Market Risk or Treasury functions with a major Australian bank or significant regional bank is highly desirable
  • Previous credible experience managing a high performing team with a complex set of delivery requirements
  • A strong understanding of the modelling capabilities and obligations of an advanced-accredited Bank
  • While statistical/actuarial qualifications are not necessary for the role, experience in modelling and mathematical concepts and a demonstrable aptitude for the nature of the work and the people who perform it is mandatory.
