Risk Advisor

About the role

The role of the Advisor First Line Risk, Personal Injury is to deliver risk and compliance advice, insights and support activities/initiatives (as per the 1st Line Of Defence Program of Work) across the NSW Workers Compensation business, supporting the business in detecting and preventing real and perceived risks.

Key accountabilities

  • Risk advice and insights to the NSW Workers Compensation business to achieve its operational objectives. Including leading the completion of risk artefacts such as risk assessments and due diligence requirements.
  • Support and promote the 3 lines of defence model as set out by the Suncorp Board.
  • Execution of oversight activities and initiatives to ensure that the NSW Workers Compensation business is compliant.
  • Investigate and manage issues and opportunities across NSW Workers Compensation to ensure that the business is meeting its objectives and make recommendations where required to strengthen the control environment.
  • Work directly with the business to support them in incident and breach identification and management activities. This will involve managing the breach determination process in compliance with GIO Service Standards as set out in the Deed. 
  • Identify risks and issues within the business to ensure we are providing our customers with a high quality, market leading experience.
  • Work closely with the Workers Insurance Solutions Team to provide risk advice and support in delivering scheme specific solutions, strategic engagement with icare, technical support and Deed requirements.
  • Implementation and maintenance of the Enterprise Compliance management IRIIS module.
  • Identification of regulatory and legislative change that will impact insurance and provision of recommendation for change.

You will have:

  • Relevant degree in Business, Law or related field - Desired
  • ISO 31000: Risk Management training – Desired
  • Minimum four (4) years appropriate industry experience in Workers Compensation claims
  • Minimum three (3) year experience within Risk related business area(s)
  • Sound knowledge of Risk Management methodologies and practices and their application in a 1LOD environment
  • Working knowledge of the workers compensation product, claim lifecycle, industry, market environment and customer segment.
  • Experience in assessing risk in business initiatives (such as process changes and project delivery)
  • Possess experience in the delivery of risk initiatives such as Risk Profiling and Control Frameworks
  • Extensive Technical experience with Risk Systems (IRIIS)
