Corporate Financial Control Senior Accountant

 About the role

As the Corporate Financial Control Senior Accountant, you will have accountability for the financial control activities of the Suncorp corporate entities and other subsidiaries of Group operating entities as agreed.

You will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of accounting, payments and reporting and ensuring financial controls are in place to safeguard the integrity of the accounting and reporting for corporate entities. 

You will follow the FRC month end close process including preparation and approval of journals and balance sheet reconciliations. 

You will manage the Suncorp Corporate Financial control team alongside the service providers to achieve month end closure, within acceptable quality and timeframe limits.

More specifically you will:

  • Responsible for the month end, quarterly and annual ledger close cycle for the corporate Entities
  • Ensure the accurate and timely delivery of all month end deliverables and maintain accountability for general ledger integrity for the corporate entities.
  • Lead a high-performing team while mentoring and promoting professional development opportunities for direct reports.
  • Maintain relationships with offshore partners to provide highest quality customer service and delivery of ledger close activities.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with all key stakeholders across the business and marketplace streams.
  • Promote an environment of continuous improvement and simplification, encouraging innovation, creativity and lateral thinking within both the onshore and offshore team.
  • Drive simplification and standardisation of processes across the different LoBs to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Providing finance and accounting advice to the various businesses.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors on delivering audit requirements and resolving audit issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the LoB and the Finance Community on projects and other ad-hoc activities.
  • Support the FRC teams as required


  • Demonstrate leadership when working with various stakeholders.
  • Establish a strong business-related relationship with offshore partners.
  • Establish and facilitate close and effective relationships with senior decision makers in the business, providing a partnering role while complying with company values.
  • Establish a reputation to become a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders.
  • Drive efficiencies with the onshore and offshore team through pro-active sponsorship of improvement initiatives and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Identify and drive the communication and sharing of best practices across teams and functions to reduce duplication, remove blockages and facilitate continuous improvement.

What you will need to succeed

  • Recognised Accounting degree – (mandatory)
  • CA or CPA Professional Accreditation – (mandatory)
  • 10+ years of financial accounting experience, preferably within Financial services industry
  • Experience in leading a high-performing team
