Software Test Engineer

What will you be doing:

As a Software Test Engineer in our Digital team, you will develop and provide guidance on writing and defining automated tests as part of a continuous delivery and integration throughout the Agile SDLC ensuring that the quality of the solution and resulting test artefacts and results meet the defined needs and requirements in accordance with published standards and/or processes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide thought leadership in QA practices.
  • Ensure the team have a shared understanding of the definition of Quality.
  • Active contribution to the QA community across Digital, Suncorp and external to Suncorp.
  • Create, maintain and communicate testing strategies, process, procedures and standards.
  • Ensure the types of testing needed to produce quality software are executed (e.g., functional, system, integration, regression, performance, security, accessibility, compatibility and maintainability) and are planned to fit into the Agile delivery cycle.
  • Actively contribute to the analysis of business requirements, solutions and implementation decisions including contribution to acceptance criteria.
  • Challenge the development team to delivery of quality, test coverage at the appropriate level and assistance in the creation of test artefacts.
  • Support the creation, maintenance and reuse of test assets e.g. test cases, plans, scripts, documentation.
  • Work with the team to deliver quality automated/manual tests to meet delivery milestones and expectations.
  • Analysing and produce test reports to reflect the progress of testing and how the definition of quality is being met.

Your background will ideally include:  

  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline (desired) or equivalent experience
  • Experience working as an advocate for quality in a distributed Agile environment for more than 3 years
  • Experience working itn the  financial services industry
  • Experience in a QA leadership role of a project, including coaching, mentoring other QAs
  • Experience in creating a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in the testing space
  • Experience in creating and executing test strategies that are appropriate for the project
  • Experience in influencing project direction by quantifying quality or risk in a business context
  • Experience in testing browser-based applications, APIs, desktop applications and mainframes
  • Experience in technical testing, including grey-box testing, HTTP methods, interpreting application code and logs
  • Experience in creating and maintaining frameworks for automated functional browser-based testing, API testing, security testing and performance testing
  • Experience in applying DevOps, CI and CD principles in order to deliver fast feedback, and value to the organisation
  • Experience in testing mobile technologies
