Activation & Events Specialist

The role

The Activation and Events Specialist will build and deliver a highly engaging activation and events program for our new, iconic store in the Pitt St Mall, Sydney, that attracts new customers, entices them to discover the Suncorp marketplace in way that is of such value to them that they are compelled to return again and again. Working with Brand & Marketing, Stores and Group Sponsorship and Customer Engagement teams, plan and deploy an activation program that supports the Group’s brand and customer engagement strategies.

Some key responsibilities are:

  • Plan and execute small and large scale events such as ambassador appearances, workshops, seminars, hosting of external speakers, live streaming of Suncorp Stadium events, impactful in-store “brand take-overs” (e.g. live Shannons Auctions & car displays; or activations linked to engagement programs such as AAMI Lucky Club, Team Girls)
  • Achieve optimum leverage from the Group’s portfolio through operational excellence in planning, delivery and measurement of activation by providing regular reports and measurement to achieve program optimisation.
  • Deliver “best in market” retail activation and event strategies that are innovative and scalable
  • Provide dedicated support and services to the Channel Activation team to deploy the Suncorp Pitt St event and activation program aligned with the Group’s marketplace strategy.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. Pitt St Store team, Customer Engagement & Sponsorship teams, Brand Managers) to stay close to their business plans and leverage accordingly.
  • Adhere to tools, templates, process and procedures when briefing in programs of work.
  • Establish ongoing project plans and regular WIP meetings with key stakeholders including external agencies.
  • Provide regular updates on the Activation & Events program and provide learnings & future recommendations following all activations.
  • Manage external partners, activation and PR agencies including development of agency briefs (reflective of customer strategies) to deliver in-store events & experiences.
  • Manage allocated activation budgets and contribute to monthly forecasting to deliver target cost base.
  • Ensure compliance with robust program governance – competition permits, trade legislations, data, legal, risk and brand alignment.
  • Oversee consistency of brand identities and brand value alignment through all customer (internal/external) facing materials associated with activation strategies

To Be successful you will have:

  • 3 – 5 yrs retail marketing experience with a focus on delivering impactful brand and/or sponsorship events and experiences from large brands
  • Extensive experience in building and deploying events & activations to build customer engagement.
  • Event planning and delivery skills
  • Visual merchandising skills or similar
  • Commercial acumen and results focused to drive business value (strong ROI methodology)
  • Ability to request, understand & interpret marketing data to identify opportunities & threats
  • Ability to manage a budget across a range of activities
  • Planning, project management, campaign execution, organising and attention to detail
  • Proven skills and expertise in campaign design, management and optimisation
  • Understanding of customer-based experience and brand principles in retail context
