Manager Litigation & Impairment

GIO, as part of the Suncorp Group, is expanding its Insurance Claims business in the NSW workers compensation scheme.
We are proud to be continuing our partnership with the scheme to offer exceptional service to customers, support their recovery and help them with return to work and life.

The Manager - Litigation and Impairment role will have you working closely with the Executive Manager. You will deliver seamless and efficient experiences for our customers across the Whole Person Impairment (WPI) and litigated claims segments, working closely with stakeholders within icare and Suncorp GIO’s legal panel providers, to deliver specialised and personalised services for each of our litigated claims segments. This role also involves managing positive relationships to co-ordinate activities, meet and maintain required standards and demonstrate continuous improvement in the execution of all business processes and initiatives.

Some Key Accountabilities of the role are as follows:

  • To ensure the team adheres to the model litigant principles as directed by icare
  • Manage our Legal Panel to ensure we abide by the model litigant principles
  • To provide appropriate management of all employment issues
  • Hold Team Leaders accountable for their performance by conducting regular performance meetings
  • To provide/organise ongoing training of the litigated specialists
  • Drive an improved claims performance across the team and reduce complaints profile
  • Monitor and maintain relevant reporting of claims reviewed for weekly reporting to Senior Leadership Team
  • The provision of excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with the relevant Workers Compensation (NSW) Act and other legislative requirements
  • Ability to direct and collaboratively work with Third Party Providers
  • To be aware of Agent and Industry wide trends in relation to WID and WPI claims
  • Adopt a continuous improvement philosophy
  • Ensure Team Leaders remain compliant with Suncorp’s expectation of what is required from a first line leader
  • Have regular one on ones with Team Leader
  • Conduct periodic LORs with team
  • Ensure the segment is abiding by Suncorp’s vision of work life balance;

 

 

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • Senior Claims Officer with at least 5 years’ experience in managing Workers Compensation Claims with legal component
  • Highly advanced abilities to lead and engage others
  • Previous experience in the management of Whole Person Impairment Claims, Work Injury Damages claims, Death claims and significant legal matters
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Work Cover Legislation and guidelines, particularly whole person impairment assessments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of technical knowledge;
  • Excellent understanding/appreciation of Workers Compensation systems and processes;
  • Industry knowledge and understanding of the legal practices and processes
  • Tertiary qualifications in Law or a related discipline.
