GIO, as part of the Suncorp Group, is expanding its Insurance Claims business in the NSW Managed fund, workers scheme.

The role of Technical Advisor is to provide high level technical assistance to Claims Officers, Claims Advisors and Senior Claims Advisors by contributing to and driving proactive claims management across the Statutory claims division, primarily focused on Personal Injury Management.  This role also involves providing a high level of technical support to ensure consistency of approach to factors which impact claims cost and to assist in the development of technical staff.

Some Key Accountabilities of the role are as follows:

  • Act as the subject matter expert for the immediate team in area of specialisation and is the main point of contact for all technical queries relating to policy, legislation, product knowledge, systems, processes or procedures.
  • Provides specialist technical and/or professional advice for the authorisation and approval of complex claims/policies.
  • Increase awareness of the cost and consequence of technical decisions.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to ensure ongoing quality decisions and outcomes.
  • Engage with external clients and stakeholders on the interpretation of policies and legislation as required.
  • Actively share knowledge, advise, and coach others to build and develop technical capabilities to create a ‘high performing team” environment.
  • Facilitate technical training and buddying for product  changes, legislative amendments,  significant court decisions, industry views on trends affecting underwriting principles.

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a technical role within with Workers Compensation.
  • Diploma or Cert IV in Personal Injury Management or equivalent.
  • A commitment to increasing customer experience and delivering high quality solutions within required timeframes.
  • A hands-on approach when coaching and mentoring the Claims team.
